Paradise

Other than the howling wind the last two days, not much was accomplished outside. This morning I had to remove a rose that didn't survive our winter and planted a new one. I borrowed this picture of one from a garden center, since I'm too lazy to look through my pictures right now.
It's called Paradise, planted in memory of Wally. Someday I'll plant the other kind again now that I know the correct way to plant full size roses. My miniatures are much easier to plant and keep alive.

From the Weeks Rose catalog:
"Paradise
(cv. WEZeip)
Medium lavender brushed ruby. Hybrid Tea Lavender roses were no Utopia until this heavenly rose came along. The exceptional colors of clean lavender with ruby-red edgings and the consistent spiraled flower-form can fill you with rapture. But true bliss cannot be achieved until you witness the abundance of large blooms and dark green disease-resistant foliage on each vigorous easy-to-grow plant.
Height/Habit: Medium/Bushy
Bloom/Size: Large, double
Petal Count: 25 to 30
Fragrance: Moderate fruity
Hybridizer: Weeks—1979
Parentage: Swarthmore x Angel Face seedling
Comments: Heat brings out the blush color but can burn the foliage"

Not much happening around here except cleaning and sorting and taking loads of things to the local Good Will, now that we have one in Fort Morgan. I gave away a big bag of shirts and kept some to cut up into quilt blocks-one set from the pastels and the other from all the western shirts. Both quilts will be someday projects.

Doing some wedding work but must do more! ♥♫

Flowers in June

I'm joining Today's Flowers!

Each morning finds me outside doing garden/yard work. Didn't get anything done last week when I was in class or on the road. I never do seem to want to work in the house. Park Hill garden tour tomorrow in Denver with Sarah!
The delphiniums are especially pretty right now.
When I looked at the individual flowers, I noticed the spurs in the middle.
Barbra Streisand from Weeks Roses is one bush I planted in Wally's memory. Click on the name to read more. I really believe he would have loved this one.
This is one of our Rocky Mountain penstemons . I used to have it at another house before we moved here. It really needs to be moved to a drier spot in the garden because it would spread more.
I think I was successful in spraying some weeks this morning. Next up is spraying for the grasshoppers. If you look closely there are some eating the violet leaves! There are too many to ignore, so I'm hoping the good bugs will be hiding when I start that job. Wishful thinking, I know. I do love my ladybugs, butterflies, and the occasional preying mantis.
