Santa's Visit
Santa came to "our" house! Actually Gran'ma and Gran'pa's before traveling around the world.
His elves filled the stockings that had to hang on the "emergency fireplace". There wasn't room anywhere else in the house!
All the nieces were there--there's TWO! Jennell and Sarah.
Great nephew, Joey, who is almost as tall as Zach.

Hand Bell Concert
Sunday evening we went to the Denver Botanic Garden's Blossoms of Light.
We went right to the building where the concert was going to be and saw these beautiful poinsettias.
My favorite color-PINK!
This group of high school teens was one of five from a church in Colorado Springs. The youngest ones start in elementary school. They played for 45 minutes and then did a repeat performance for another crowd. They are so talented!!
The largest bell weighs 16 pounds!

Vacation is mighty nice~got lots of cleaning done and wrapping of lots of little things to put in 19 stockings for Christmas Eve. Santa Zach is going to be a very busy elf!

Jesus is the Gift
I'm thrilled to share my family Nativity Sets and the ones that were on display last Saturday during the TPO Craft Show. Thanks to our hostess at Happier than a Pig in Mud, Lynn.
This first one is Sarah's. It is our newest addition to our collection.
This white one was made by me when we were married back in 1977. There was a ceramic shop in Wiggins owned by an older gentleman. Wally's younger sister took me in to meet Emory and taught me how to clean the pieces, fire them, and then glaze them. Thanks Ginny! I love you!
When my friend and I were setting things up on Friday evening, we left the pieces for Sarah to arrange on Saturday morning. This was taken before she arrived and "fixed" things. It's always been her job to set it up at home!
This set was from one of my friends.
Another friend made this for me. We both taught First Grade and put them out at school during December.

These other sets were on display in the Elementary Library, too.
This set was painted by a woman that lived on an Indian reservation in South Dakota.
The many pieces of this set below included a figure of a man with a basket of bread. Sharon didn't know who he was and thought perhaps he was the inn keeper offering Mary and Joseph something to eat. It came from an Estate sale that Sharon said she tried to encourage the man selling it to keep it and give it to his children, but he insisted that he didn't want it.
His wife painted all the pieces and had passed away. She was very talented and selected such soft colors that are gorgeous.
A pewter set from 1986 when Sarah Josephine was a young child. I consider her my second daughter~just a little younger than my Sarah. Having two "daughters" with the same name keeps me from going down a list of names to get the right one!! That has happened to Grandma when trying to call the grandsons by name. ;D
This creche was made by our librarian's father in-law. The figurines are just like Sarah's.
Elegant gold accents...
Made in Spain with mud (terracotta). One of the kings is on an elephant and the shepherds are gathered around a campfire.

Sarah and I heard many stories about the visitors' own sets and collections throughout the day. We both thought there would be more people coming through, but it was a joy to share with those that came to our Nativity Room.

Holiday Tea at Houston Gardens
Sandi is our gracious hostess for Teatime Tuesday. Please visit the other participants for Holiday Joy!
Last Saturday I was a guest for tea at Houston Gardens in an old house on the grounds that was used as the venue for our outing. Like 100(?)years old, simple, but charming. I was too excited to remember to take a picture of the house. As we entered we were greeted in the foyer and directed to our tables.
We were seated in what probably once was the dining room. Karen's Red Hat group had about 12 members present, plus two guests. My friend is on the left, I'm next, and then a delightful mother/daughter couple. The remainder of the Red Hats were at two more tables just to the north of us. Another group of five was in the opposite corner with a sweet girl (8 years, maybe), a teenager, and three "grown-ups".
On the other side of the house the parlor was set up with more tables for more ladies. Didn't see any guys, but fondly remember a time when Wally, Sarah, and I went to tea together. He would have come along and enjoyed himself!
We were entertained by a dreamy harpist when we were quiet enough to hear her. I'm usually rather quiet, but I seemed to chat as much as everyone else! It sounded almost like the lunchroom at school, just better acoustics. Thankfully the harp was set up nearer to our area!
The menu included seven sweets with lemon curd and mock Devonshire cream and five savories. I sampled everything except the Egg Salad.

When I got back home, my spirit was so happy. It's been quite a while since I felt so thoroughly delighted. Dear friends are a treasure that I cherish each day. Thank you, Karen! Victorian Christmas Party
Until I received a reminder in my email, I'd forgotten I said I'd be interested in the Victorian Christmas party at A Delightsome Life! Thank you Kathy!
Ornaments that decorate the tree and are homemade are the most delightful part of the Christmas spirit in my house. This one came from an ornament exchange last year!
At the moment I'm not sure if Santa was part of the Victorian celebration, except in Clement Moore's "The Night Before Christmas", one of my all time FAVORITE holiday stories to share with my classes at school. Here we have our own Santa with Jade, a great niece, very interested in Santa's beard! This Santa was only 21 at the time.
These two guys get to goof off while Santa's reindeer do all the work during the holidays.
Working in the kitchen is more fun when the resident Gingerbread Family has relatives drop in during December. The wee boys and girls stay with me all year long to spice up my life.
The nativity scenes are honored in our home and this is just one on the front door. It will go to school next Saturday to be included with our other ones in the Nativity Room during the TPO Craft Show. I'm thrilled to be in charge of this gift to the community and hope for lots and lots of visitors.
During the holidays I am trying to simplify my decorations, so the wreaths are permanent and ready to hang. I put them up throughout the house and can spend more time on other things.
One with thimbles,
one with needlepoint ornaments, made before Sarah was born,
and a new one from last year with a wreath hanger.
Now it's time to have my Annalee elves come out to play. They might be here this afternoon! Have a Delightsome Holiday visiting all the participants! ♥♫
