One of Sarah's wedding shower presents last July was a tub of ingredients for her to make Home Made Laundry Soap. There are several places I've found with the recipe so if you're interested just do a search. The Beehive Cottage is where I found the recipe we used.
I got out my old hand turned grater/shredder and turned a bar of Zote soap into flakes to add to the rest of the dry ingredients. The soap was faded because I left a bar out to harden in the air. That was probably not a great idea and so this is the pretty pale pink for today.
Now the black. Yes! I know that this looks red. Black is coming. I saw some cute Valentines made with melted crayons and wanted a heart silicone mold by Wilton (saw it in a Michael's ad) that could be used in the oven. Need/want one? Click on the picture to go to Wilton's site.
Only I wasn't going to drive to Greeley to get one. We had a blizzard and I wasn't going anywhere.
This is what I found in one of my kitchen drawers!
Small hearts of cast iron! This will be perfect for melting broken bits of crayon and cooling them off in the freezer so they pop right out! We just need to find some extra time to peel the paper off the crayons. Years ago it was not a chore to get the paper off, but now, I swear they glue that paper on!Hmmm. Days off can be productive! Now that most of the house is neat and tidy, the laundry is clean, put away, and the trash is finally in the dumpster-I can play. Except . . . I have to go to school tomorrow.
I think I'm ready for another snow day!!

GREAT ideas! Thank you! I love snow days too but I don't seem to be getting any this year! I think I will mow the grass today....yep -- it's Feb. 7th....
Snow days are great, aren't they? Especially when they are linked into a 3-day weekend. You did get Monday off, too, didn't you? Enjoy the rest of the week even at school!! Sally
Nothing better than a snow day, making your own soap, hats off to you! I think a 1969 prom dress would be perfect, let me know if you can make it to the ball and I will send a carriage!

I found that exact recipe at the beehive cottage - isn't it wonderful!! I think that I will continue to use it - I love it, it's economical and pink!!
Stay warm!
I have never tried making soap but it looks like fun! I would take advantage of snow days too!

Looks like you enjoyed playing in that snow day Marilyn! What fun! And how neat that you can make laundry soap - I didn't know about that, thanks for sharing. :)
I make my own detergent too, but I use Fels Naptha soap...I have never heard of Zote soap, but it's so pretty and pink I may have to find it just so my detergent is pink!! lol
Glad you liked my plans for the window seat...it's a BIG project, but I'm SO stinkin' excited to get it going. :)
PS...I was raised in the country so I totally get the holy cow. :) hee hee hee
