My Winner

Congratulations!

The box of "Littles for Leap Year" is going to travel across the United States to Florida! Sandy, from Ibeati is the winner! I've sent an email to get her address and will be sending the box on its way asap. Like me, she is in Education, so it seems we have a bit in common! I need to find out if Sandy lives near any sugar sand beaches. I still need some of that sand for a project.

Eagles and Percherons

I had a great Saturday driving to my mom's! As I was nearing Eaton, I spotted an eagle flying east. I've never seen one in this area EVER. Later on the way home near the Weld and Morgan County line I spotted another one! This one wasn't out of place, in my mind, as it was near the Platte River.

Then as I turn off the highway to get to my mom's I always check on "my" horses. The five Percherons were in their corral which I noticed looked a little messy. Usually it is clean so I wondered if there was a problem.

After leaving my mom's I saw something odd looking coming at me on the road. It was the two adult horses hitched up to a quaint manure spreader, with a full load, on its way to a nearby field. It was so much fun seeing the team with their collars and harnesses pulling the spreader. Sad to say, the camera was at home and I can't think fast enough to pull out my phone and take a picture with it. Click on the picture links to get to the sites where I found these pictures. Then you will see the entire thing. The man in the picture is 6 feet tall, so you can see that the Percherons are huge work horses.

It was a triple delight Saturday--my mom, eagles, and Percherons. Oh, and I stopped at SA on the way home and found some junque to use in a summer garden scupture. After I clean the glass, I'll try to share a picture.

Revelation Investigation

President's Day means I am at home (YEA) and puttering around cleaning in the kitchen. Decided to polish my grandma's iced teaspoons. There are five more, but am taking a break.

Polishing silver is so difficult, you know!

Will be checking the pattern in a few minutes, but am not sure if Revelation is the pattern name or maker. There's no other name on the handles.
{Just in from the Research Center: These spoons are listed at Sterling Flatware Fashions and Facts and they're from 1953 Revelation /Precious Flower made by International.} It was so easy to look them up. Thanks to Connie at Hartwood Roses!
The spoons are on my thrifted napkins by Williams-Sonoma. I did see the same ones at the WS store in Denver priced at $12 EACH! Beautiful mitered corners and a nice wide hem with a fancy stitch. I don't think they are the same ones as the hotel napkins on the web site, though they could be and those are cheaper. I'm sure I paid $1 each at GW, which is not exactly my idea of thrifty, but I liked them A LOT.

Littles for Leap Year

Leap Year Day seems like a good day for a Give Away.

I'm calling it "Littles" because I like alliteration a lot!

A small tin of Elizabethan soap, made in Britain, a cookie cutter, a pink bookmark, rose bud soap petals that some use for crafts. They come with a warning, though. I read somewhere that they make a real mess in the bathtub.

I'd be happy to leap over to our little U.S. Post Office to let this lovingly packed box be on its way February 29 to one of my blog friends that leave a comment on this post. I do hope there is something that catches your fancy to help celebrate LEAP YEAR DAY.I will draw a lucky winner on the 28th so I can get the box sent out the next day after school. ♥♫

Inspiration

Sarah Jo and Sarah Joy

Below is my newest tea treasure thanks to my "adopted" daughter Sarah. She is the REAL Aunt Sarah, but not my real baby. I was Sarah's mentor during her first year at our school and she's just a bit younger than my REAL daughter, Sarah. Confused? It's OK. That is normal around here most of the time. They are both Sarah J.'s...Sarah Josephine and Sarah Joy (Try saying their names quickly).

Both girls know me so well and it's a fact that all three of us ♥LOVE♥ books!

NEW BOOK:

I may now have another tea party convert to help plan and serve gatherings of friends. Sarah Jo enjoyed reading through the book before she went home yesterday. I believe our first tea together will be a Memorial Tea. Sarah is missing her step mom (think REAL mom), now that she went to be with Jesus. We'll start planning a tea and continue sharing memories and letting Sarah know it's OK to feel the pain because we understand it.

Pink and Black

I love SNOW DAYS!! Because it's winter I can stay inside and actually get things done around the house and have a little time to play.

One of Sarah's wedding shower presents last July was a tub of ingredients for her to make Home Made Laundry Soap. There are several places I've found with the recipe so if you're interested just do a search. The Beehive Cottage is where I found the recipe we used.
I got out my old hand turned grater/shredder and turned a bar of Zote soap into flakes to add to the rest of the dry ingredients. The soap was faded because I left a bar out to harden in the air. That was probably not a great idea and so this is the pretty pale pink for today.
Now the black. Yes! I know that this looks red. Black is coming. I saw some cute Valentines made with melted crayons and wanted a heart silicone mold by Wilton (saw it in a Michael's ad) that could be used in the oven. Need/want one? Click on the picture to go to Wilton's site.

Only I wasn't going to drive to Greeley to get one. We had a blizzard and I wasn't going anywhere.

This is what I found in one of my kitchen drawers!

Small hearts of cast iron! This will be perfect for melting broken bits of crayon and cooling them off in the freezer so they pop right out! We just need to find some extra time to peel the paper off the crayons. Years ago it was not a chore to get the paper off, but now, I swear they glue that paper on!

Hmmm. Days off can be productive! Now that most of the house is neat and tidy, the laundry is clean, put away, and the trash is finally in the dumpster-I can play. Except . . . I have to go to school tomorrow.

I think I'm ready for another snow day!!
